Acorn Karate

I began martial arts training in 1981 starting with Judo and switching to Shotokan Karate in the early 1990s, first at The Rainbow Centre, Coulby Newham and later joining Kajuai Karate at Clairville Stadium in Middlesbrough with Sensei Harold Stephenson Sr & Jr.  I was awarded my 1st Dan in 1997 and with their guidance I began training as an instructor.

During the mid 1990s, with Sensei Harold Stephenson and Sensei Kieron Flood, I assisted with training students who were part of the England Squad and who were competing in European and World championships.

I took over the running of the club, now renamed Acorn Karate, in April 2020 after the untimely death of Sensei Harold Stephenson, and was joined by Sensei Chris Lord.

Acorn Karate, situated at the Acorn Centre, offers traditional Shotokan Karate led by experienced instructors Sensei Jason Coverdale (4th Dan) and Sensei Chris Lord (2nd Dan). Classes are held every Thursday night, tailored for beginners, intermediates, and advanced practitioners, ensuring inclusive training for all levels. The curriculum emphasizes a comprehensive exploration of Shotokan principles and applications. Open to all ages starting from 5 years old, Acorn Karate provides structured training supported by grading syllabus books to aid in your progression through the ranks. Join us to develop discipline, technique, and a deeper understanding of this respected martial art.
